Bird of the Month (May)

Posted by: ddumais99 | May 13, 2009 | 11 Comments |

I have dark brown wings, a white abdomen, and chest rings of black and white. I also have red eye rings. I have an unique way of distracting predators. When I feel like my nest is being threatened, I like to pretend to be hurt and I drag one of my wings on the ground. I do this to lure predators away from my nest. My call says my name. I lay my eggs flat on the ground and they are spotted with one end being pointed. What feathered friend am I?

THE ANSWER: I am a Killdeer.
